Case Study
Riverside Parkway - Austell, GA
Situation
On September 17, 2024, Cantsink LLC was called to a property located
in Austell, GA, consisting of a large warehouse loading dock and office
space. The site featured a small landscaped area directly next to the
loading dock and office area. The client had reported a water line
rupture that caused potential erosion, leading to settlement concerns.
After repairing the water line, the client's engineering firm
recommended the use of helical piles and underpinning brackets to
prevent any further erosion-based settlement. Cantsink was brought in
to install these support systems in the excavated area where the water
line had been repaired.
Scope of Work
Cantsink's task was to install two 2.5-40L07-12 single helix helical piles
with underpinning brackets (UPBs) were used to provide structural
support and mitigate any risk of future settlement due to the water line
rupture. The work area was located next to the loading dock, where
the excavation had taken place. Cantsink's team carried out the
installation of the helical piles, with the objective of stabilizing the site
and addressing any ongoing concerns from the water line rupture.
Anchor System
For this job, Cantsink installed two 2.5-40L07-12 single helix helical
piles, each equipped with underpinning brackets (UPBs). These piles
were specifically chosen due to their load-bearing capacity and
effectiveness in stabilizing areas prone to settlement. The piles were
installed to a depth of 28 feet to ensure optimal support and prevent
any further movement in the area impacted by the water line rupture.
Result
The installation was completed in just 4.5 hours, ensuring minimal
disruption to the site. Despite the presence of a gas line and fire service
line near the building, Cantsink's team conducted a careful utility locate
and discovered the fire line had not been marked. The team hand-dug
the area to ensure the fire line was not present, proceeding with the
installation without any incidents. The project was successfully
completed, with the underpinning system now in place to protect the
property from further erosion or settlement issues, providing the client
with a stable, long-term solution.
